Details and History
The Library of Congress website offers a multitude of historical images, many with no known restrictions on use. This image is from the early 20th century American Colony stereograph titled East of the Jordan and Dead Sea. Front view of the ruins of Mashita [i.e., Mshatta].

The ruins of castle Qasr Mshatta (قصر المشتى‎, "Winter Palace"), near Amman, Jordan, date to the eighth century. The Mshatta Facade, an important example of early Islamic architecture and art, currently resides in Berlin.

Maintenant incluse au Campus McGill. Les jardins sont disparus en 1926, lorsque la ville entrepris la construction de l'avenue McGregor (actuelle avenue du Docteur Penfield). Vue ici depuis ave. du Docteur Penfield.
Secteur du "Golden Square Mile" ou "Mile carré Doré", comme son nom l'indique, forme une aire d'environ un mile carré. Dans ce quartier, le plus huppé de la ville, vivent dans un luxe inouï les magnats de la fourrure, les bâtisseurs d'usines et de chemins de fer comme le fut James Ross (1848-1913).

Vers 1690: pour augmenter la sécurité de la basse ville et du port, le gouverneur Louis-Hector de Callière installe sa résidence, une grande maison de pierre pourvue de quatre pavillons d'angle formant bastions, sur le terrain situé immédiatement à l'Ouest de ce qui constitue aujourd'hui la rue de Callière. La pointe à Callière a désormais un nom qui lui restera. Jusqu'en 1703, le bâtiment servira de domicile au gouverneur. Il sera ensuite occupé par de nombreux propriétaires et locataires, y compris par l'intendant entre 1716 et 1719, jusqu'à ce qu'il soit détruit par le feu en 1765.
