Sepia-esque edit...critisicm please!
edit photos
Image by ClickFlashPhotos / Nicki Varkevisser
*replaced original photo posted with a new edit to change the color of her scarf. This is my younger cousin who visited last month from the Netherlands. I took this on my dad's camera when we were walking in the woods. I think she is so gorgeous.

I was trying to go with a bit of old fashioned style. Sort of tinted photo meets sepia. Is it too dark?

Behold, the Corvette ZR-1 [HDR Edit]
edit photos
This is a Chevrolet Corvette C6 (2011 MY) "ZR-1". I just happened to catch the setting sun as it passed through the clear glass portal in the hood of the Corvette ZR-1. The glass is actually installed in the hood to "show off" the supercharger that helps this monster produce 500+ hp. This is the fastest american production car you can buy off of a dealership - and the fastest Corvette yet.

The Chevrolet Corvette has been in production since the early 1950s. It's the absolute pinnacle of American Muscle cars. Over 1 million have been produced since they started. The body style has changed dramatically since the beginning. The car is both longer and wider, and of course much more powerful. There are several versions of the Corvette. This is the top of the line and costs about 5,000.

If you decide to buy one, Chevy will send you to two days of Bondurant driving school as part of the purchase. I think it's just a promotion, but then again it might be a way for them to make sure you don't kill yourself in this thing. :)

I really love this photograph because it really felt like summer. American cars, an American flag, a beautiful sunset, and later on there were fireworks. If that wasn't enough of a cliche', I was actually just polishing off a hot dog before I took this picture.

Here are some more stats on the 'Vette and the ZR-1.

HDR Edit of the previous post.

3 Shot HDR - +/- 1 Stop. Edited in lightroom 3 for contrast, exposure, etc. Nik HDR Efx and then CS4 to (try) and fix the flag due to the wind.

Hermosa Beach Waves at Night (Redux)
edit photos
Beautiful ocean waves, seen at night and shot from the pier at Hermosa Beach with a point a shoot camera three years ago. Why have I uploaded this new version? For one, I have now learned more photo editing skills and it was great to re-visit this image and try it again. See the original from 2006 here. This redux version is higher res and uses a more blue cast, with levels, channels, curves and Gaussian blur to improve it.

Now, what called this to my attention? Well that would be a phone call from the New York Times asking if I could send along the image and original for a possible publication in a fashion article.

It took me hours to search through all the CD's I'd saved in back-ups to fine the original. This was before I had my external hard drives for back-ups. How did someone from the NYTimes find this image? The tags, and I am sort of a tag queen with flickr. The artist must have searched on "waves" and my image came up among thousands on flickr. Next, I had to wait weeks to learn whether the artist did decide on my image over other images to use in the layout.

For the rest of the story, see the next image...

A not-so-subtle edit of a picture of Roslyn I took a few weeks ago. I used this before, and this is a second take on the same theme.

I believe post processing on photos is one the most important rules of a photographer.
All we know, here is not an exhibition to just show our picture to each other and they just praising the photos. Flickr is a virtual workshop, we are here to learn from each other, and teaching to each other.
So, since now, I've decided to put the Original photo which came out from my camera , here under the processed photo and describe how I edited the photo and what I did with it.
It's got some benefits, first, you'll find what I did with my photo, and learn from it. Second, you can suggest me how I could have a better edit and whether is there any faster way to do the same.
Please I want you to critique me. My photo itself and the edit I did on it.
Thanks

28th August 2009 - I can't even remember why this picture was an arghhh moment, Friday was quite good... probably linked to the headachey sickness in the evening that pretty much knocked me out....

Uploading a few days later, it took a search through SD cards to find it again, then renewed arrrghhh as it was a bit rubbish and I'd not noticed at the time.

So I added a mouth.

Bwahaha... oh dear...just can't keep me quiet :)

Inspired by Rev and his darker edits, although this one is a much more crappy version!!

I'm not sure why I love this photo but i do. And I tried to edit it to have a straight horizon but it just doesn't look as good as this.

Today about 45 minutes before our family had to be at church to volunteer at the kids club (and for jewel to participate) raven and i ran to the ocean and took mermaid photos. We considered taking photos like these yesterday, but the light just wasn't there.

I thought that i've had a lot of fun capturing golden hour light on the ocean, so why not try with a person in the shot? I basically got some of the shots i was looking for, but what i really needed was some speedlight fill flash for Raven's face. Anyway, better luck next time. :)

'tagged' keyed mix
edit photos

tagged [but in a kind of 'different' way!]

the wonderful and talented pomegranacat:

www.flickr.com/photos/musicpurr/

laid a tag on me this morn.

a wee bit different from the regular 'ten things about you' gig.

just grab a cam, take an sp, upload and choose several other victims to tag.

i think it's a 'candid' or 'this is really you' vibe.

i bloody hate sp's and you should all know this by now.

but i thought i would groove with the 'tag' vibe, though with a twist.

i instantly knew wanted a real close macro of my eyes, and i want to 'mat' frame top and bottom. you know the score, the 'cinemascope' mat.

i grabbed the camera, walked outside into the sunshine and pointed the damn thing at myself. which i detest.

from about 24 shots, i had one useable.

when i started to work with the shot in cs3, i began to think about the enormous capability software processing [and of course darkroom technique] gives us to visually 'lie'. to pictorially dissemble.

to play 'let's pretend'.

even with images of ourselves.

or should that be 'especially' with images of ourselves?

we edit. we choose. we process. we select. we censor.

we control absolutely how much we give of ourselves 'visually' to others, and we control exactly how visually 'truthful' these images are.

i will not bore by extending the discussion, so i will end here.

three treatments. same image. three moods. three levels of visual veracity. none telling the actual truth.

of course i felt entirely uncomfortable uploading the cyanotype and sharpened 'old' image!! i feel it makes me look awful!

but i thought i must. as an indicator as to the sheer breadth of visual untruth we are capable of creating using image processing software.

just a little thought stream.

may be worthy of further examination and further questions.

thank you astra. most enjoyable. honoured that you tagged me.

best to thee. best to thee all.

the|G|™

and of course, i tag the following:

a dharma bum
*submerged*
man kissing bird
T.Rex3000
Fusty Box
Invisible Cirkus
sevaunity
andrej dutina
one under the sun
©arlein
oXane

i'm keeping the tag list small. don't want to apply pressure on too many good people :)

Jared's Edit
edit photos
froknowsphoto.com/digital-photography-lightroom-editing-2

Back again with another Head to Head battle of RAW editing between Greg and Jared. This weeks photo is an interior shot captured with the Nikon D3000 and Nikon 14-24 2.8 taken in Italian restaurant. You will get your chance to edit and upload this RAW file with us, read below for details.

This is a tough photo to edit as you have to decide if you are going to let the windows blow out or try to balance the inside light with outside. I chose to focus on getting the inside processing to where I wanted and let outside blow out. I can say that my edit this week goes snap crackle pop and you will be surprised which slider I actually used.

Greg decide to go with balancing the light inside and out as much as possible. His edit resulted in a more realistic feel which looks like what you would see if you walked in yourself.

It always is a toss up but let us know which edit you prefer. Mine (Jared) which goes bam bam pow or Greg's which goes "hello I look like I should probably look".
