Image of "anglepoise" Apple iMac (the design of which was reputedly inspired by a sunflow) with default desktop (now emulated by Vista) against coloured stained glass windows in Fabrica Art Gallery - a former church - in Brighton, East Sussex. Weak colours outside of the window and computer screen have been selectively desaturated to enhance the image.

Noregians put rocks on top of other rocks to mark their way - a bit like leaving a breadcrumb trail.

"In Norway and here, to put one rock on top of another rock in the wilderness is the first thing you do if you want to make a mark. When you walk and you want to find your way back... you make this mark. It is a very archaic, simple thing, but it is referencing the [Robert] Venturi duck. We wanted to make something that forces you to stop your car and get out to take a photograph." - Peter Fischli

There also is a companion piece in the Norwegian wilderness...

:

i was recently lucky enough to attend the opening of a superb exhibition of photography entitled 'over the hill'.

the exhibition constitutes a visual and conceptual photographic 'journey' featuring tim andrews.

tim was a practising lawyer when diagnosed with parkinsons disease in 2005.

less than a year passed before tim could no longer practice law due to his ongoing illness.

the photographic journey began after tim answered an ad calling for subjects willing to pose nude for a series of work involving 'real' people and not models.

subsequent to that shoot, various photographers, from professional to amateur, have made work featuring tim.

the 55 photographs that make up the exhibition are as varied and eclectic as the photographers themselves.

the work that i am posting here is not necessarily meant to be a visual representation of the exhibition itself, rather, it constitutes incidental and accidental images that reflect my experience of the exhibition opening.

i am personally familiar with julian holtom and solarixx [see links below], two exceptionally gifted photographers whose work is included in the exhibition, and i had the distinct pleasure of attending the opening with jules [my thanks to you sir].

the exhibition is taking place in the wayfarers arcade [southport - north west england].

go if you can, the work is exceptional and the cause is extremely worthy.

Smiths Row, The Market Cross, Cornhill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 1BT

We are happy to welcome Australian artists Tanya Schultz, Nicole Andrijevic and John Kassab to Smiths Row in what is their first major British show. Schultz and Andrijevic have worked in collaboration since 2007 using the alias Pip & Pop and this is their second collaboration with sound artist Kassab.

Sweet sweet galaxy is a unique installation depicting an infinite psychedelic landscape. An amalgamation of numerous materials including coloured sugar, fine sand, cake decorations, origami, found objects, LED lights and sound, this colourful sensory kingdom will be constructed directly in the gallery space in early January.

The soundscape, created in collaboration with Melbourne-based John Kassab, adds another layer of immersion to the audience experience and sense of being transported to a faraway or imagined place. Whilst the soundscape adds to the narrative of the imagined landscape, interpreting the sounds with sugar has been central to Pip & Pop's process when working with John.

The sugar used in this exhibition has been kindly donated by Silverspoon. As the sole producers of homegrown British sugar the company supports 1200 East Anglian beet farmers. According to Dan Gough of Silverspoon: "the sugar used in this exhibition was grown an average of 30 miles away from the gallery".
